Aurelian Music started with the Aurelian Ensemble in 1971 giving a performance of Verdi's Requiem with South West Essex Choir.  It had become manifestly clear that many choral societies who were accompanied by their local amateur orchestra, a mixed bag of local players, were disappointed with their overall performance.

Who Are We?

Aurelian Ensemble - West Rd Concert Hall, Cambridge

David Temple, conductor of Crouch End Festival Chorus and Hertfordshire Chorus says:

Composer John Rutter says:

I rehearse my choirs for many weeks to produce high quality concerts, for which I need an orchestra who can join us on the day, rehearse for three hours and immediately become part of the performance. I need excellent players who are terrific sight-readers, totally reliable and punctual and able to sort out technical difficulties with the minimum of fuss. If the players happen to be friendly and don't complain too much about cold churches with poor lighting all the better.

Such an orchestra does not exist I hear you say - well it does! The excellent Aurelian Ensemble organised so proficiently by the irrepressible Mary Spiers - the answer to all conductors' prayers."

"This flexible, versatile organisation has been a very welcome addition to the musical scene. Whatever the occasion, Aurelian Music has a group of musicians
to suit it"
